Apple Dumplings
1 cup all-purpose flour,
1/4 teaspoon salt,
2 teaspoon baking powder,
2 tablespoon butter or margarine or shortening,
1/3 cup milk,
1 egg,
4 or 6 apples - peeled and sliced,
Suugar, cinnamon or nutmeg (to taste)

 

Sift flour, salt and baking powder together.
Cut in butter, add milk beaten with the egg.
Knead 6 to 8 times.
Roll out 1/4 inch thick. Divide into 8 or 9 squares.
Cover each with peeled sliced apple and sprinkle with sugar, cinnamon or nutmeg to taste.
Cover apples by pulling the dough over them and by using any end pieces.
Seal edges.
Place in a greased baking dish or glass casserole.
Cook 15 minutes in a 425ºF oven.
Then pour the following syrup on top:-
SYRUP:-
1 cup water or apple juice,
1/2 cup sugar,
1 tablespoon butter or margarine,
pinch of nutmeg or cinnamon.

Mix ingredients together, bring to a boil.
Pour over dumplings.
Bake dumplings 25 or 30 minutes more.
Serve with cold table cream and maple syrup.
